Repair and longevity
It can be opened.
The battery can be replaced. The driver can be replaced. The board can be replaced. None of this voids anything, and none of it requires us.
Opening it
Six screws and a hex key.
The back panel comes off with a 2.5 mm hex key, supplied in the box. Behind it, everything is a connector rather than a solder joint: the battery, the driver, the dial assembly and the board each come out on their own.
Nothing inside is glued and nothing is potted. There are no security fasteners, no adhesive labels across seams, and no warning about warranty on the panel.

We hold parts for every object we have ever sold, and we will sell them to you whether or not you bought the object new.
Sending it to us
If you would rather not open it, send it back and we will repair it for the price of the part plus £45. Two-year warranty on everything; outside that, we still fix it, and we tell you the cost before we start.
Write to repairs@stemme.dk and a person answers.
If we stop
The part nobody says.
Every object plays without us. Stations are stored on the device, and Calliope plays entirely from its own storage — a Stemme with no company behind it is still a radio, and still a story player.
If Stemme ever winds up, three things happen on the same day: the cabinet drawings, board schematics and firmware are published under a licence that lets anyone repair or rebuild them; remaining parts stock goes to the repair community rather than to a skip; and every family with a Calliope receives their recordings as plain audio files, with the read and narrated stories clearly separated.
There is no subscription now and there will not be one. Nothing you own stops working because a server was switched off.
